NYUK Custom Knife Design

$75.00

Been looking for a custom knife but can’t decide on what you want? Don’t know where to begin? Let me help you. From small kiridashis to large camp choppers I have helped countless knife aficionados design their perfect knife. From the right steel to the perfect handle material I will guide you through the process and keep you updated on the build as it progresses. So where do we start?

First, you and I will begin the design process. Do you already have a sketch of what you are looking for? If not you tell me in general what type/style of knife you want and I will sketch up a few designs. This design process can take a couple of days to a week or more depending on re-designs until you are satisfied with the design and the real work can begin.

What about cost? Once the final design is agreed upon I will calculate the total and require that half be paid as a deposit (which part of you will already have paid with the initial design price). Once I start grinding steel I can’t put it back. After the knife is complete (with or without sheath), I will require the balance to be paid prior to shipping. So what about this initial payment of $75? This is for the design phase and will be a part of the total cost of the blade once finished. It takes time to sketch out knives and some cases I have gone through 8 different sketches before arriving at the desired design.

Why are custom knives so expensive? I get asked that all the time and I do realize that not everyone is willing or even able to afford a custom knife. First, I like to have the client involved in helping with the design, whether they sketch the design or allow me to come up with something. This way the client becomes a part of the process and has a real interest in the final product. Second, the choice of steel, handle material, design time, build time, and other costs (i.e. grinding belts, adhesives, electricity, etc.) all become a part of the cost. Depending on the size of the blade, heat treatment needed, blade finish desired, all help in determining the cost. A camp chopper for instance can take up to 2 weeks or more to complete depending on things mentioned above.

So let’s get started. If you still have questions before taking the plunge please fill out a “Custom” form from the link above. If you prefer to have me call you and discuss in more detail the please include your phone number and let me know you want me to call you.
